Identity, Purpose, and History

With the founding of the Danish Hedeselskab on March 28, 1866, the foundation was laid for an organization that from the very beginning made significant efforts to cultivate the Danish heaths, which is the background for the company’s name: The Danish Hedeselskab.

In close collaboration with our employees and business partners, members of the association, and through our distributions, we take social responsibility and contribute to ensuring responsible development.

A long history – briefly told

With the cultivation of the Danish heaths, activities followed in irrigation and planting forests and hedgerows, thereby creating the beginning of significant societal development.

Since then, the company has evolved in line with societal development and is today one of the leading companies in the fields of nature, environment, and energy in Denmark and internationally.

Hedeselskabet’s roots extend back to a transformative period with many new ideas, a strong commitment to society, and significant development of knowledge and technology.

We at Hedeselskabet are proud of the company’s history and uphold the values that formed the basis for the establishment of the company over 150 years ago, and we will continue the company’s development in the same spirit.

One large community

As an association, we have more than 2,700 members. They elect the majority of our representative assembly, which subsequently elects the board of directors. The association focuses on communication and dialogue with existing and potential members.

Our business is divided into five areas: Forestry, Green Services, Circular Bioeconomy, Landscape and Construction, and Green Investments—all centered around nature.

Hedeselskabet is an attractive, value-based workplace with competent, service-oriented, and quality-conscious employees. We maintain ongoing dialogue with interest organizations, public institutions, and individuals who influence our fields of expertise.

Hedeselskabet’s purpose clause

Hedeselskabet ensures that the business operates at a high ethical, professional, and profitable level concerning natural values and resources, both in Denmark and abroad.

Hedeselskabet also actively works to improve living conditions primarily in rural areas and to utilize natural resources for the benefit of society through research, development, and communication in the fields of nature, environment, and energy.

Hedeselskabet can construct, acquire, establish, and operate real estate or businesses within its purpose, with its enterprises being operated in corporate form with limited liability.

Our vision

We are building a sustainable future—with nature as a partner

At Hedeselskabet and in our business areas, we work to counteract and mitigate climate change by limiting and compensating for CO2 emissions, replacing CO2-heavy materials with alternatives, and through climate resilience solutions.

We contribute to increasing biodiversity and develop effective solutions for the full utilization of nature’s scarce resources and for recycling.
