Afforestation
Afforestation is the process of planting a forest, where together we can bind CO2, increase biodiversity, and secure our groundwater. The diversity of the forest creates space for future generations to explore and play under the treetops. Each tree contributes to a richer wildlife, great hunting, and nature experiences, and stands as a green banner in the fight for more nature in Denmark.
Afforestation for private individuals, businesses, and municipalities
At Dalgas, you can get help to realise the dream of a forest in Denmark, whether you are a private landowner, farmer, business, or municipality. For private landowners, afforestation can increase the property's value and contribute to CO2 absorption.
Farmers can use afforestation as a climate contribution or an economic investment, while businesses and municipalities can create a green footprint and strengthen their ESG profile.
The path to a forest
Afforestation is not a standard product but something we tailor in collaboration with our customers. Our local consultant is an expert in soil and weather conditions, ensuring we establish a healthy forest that is secured for the future.
We know that it is crucial for the result that we keep the forest clean and maintain it continuously. Therefore, we have a large fleet of specialised machinery ready for forest work.
Establishing a forest
When we establish a forest, we screen the soil through a non-binding area check. Using digital maps and satellite photos, we examine the afforestation area to determine if the dream of a forest can be realised.
The process and solution are adapted to the private landowner, commercial agriculture, or municipality. We ensure ongoing dialogue and make a great effort to make our customers feel secure in the process.
Our typical afforestation process:
- Initial dialogue, where we conduct an area check and discuss the possibilities
- We walk the area with the client and discuss the project
- We prepare a planting plan, budget, and agreement basis
- We start the case processing, where we apply for permits from the necessary authorities (e.g., municipalities, museums, and the Environmental Protection Agency) and subsidies – this typically takes 4-6 months
- The plants are ordered in the autumn
- In the spring, we use GPS to mark the areas
- We plant the forest and set up wildlife fencing
- We report the subsidies to the relevant authorities
- We handle the maintenance, contributing to a healthy forest in growth
