Baden-Württemberg introduces LogStackLIDAR for laser measurement of raw timber

Baden-Württemberg has become the first German state to introduce our advanced app LogStackLIDAR for measuring raw timber. The system, which uses LiDAR technology, makes the measurement process both faster and more accurate.

LogStackLIDAR was developed by us at Dalgas, where we have over 20 years of experience in photo-optical measurement of raw timber. The LiDAR system emits a cloud of laser points, which are reflected back to the sensor, creating an image of the timber stack in the correct scale. This allows for the measurement of the timber stack's size and solid volume with a margin of error of less than three percent.

In early January 2025, 42 employees from Forst BW were thoroughly introduced to the system during a three-day workshop in the Black Forest in southern Germany. They were trained in both the theoretical and practical use of LogStackLIDAR. Later, up to 300 users will be trained in the use of LogStackLIDAR.

The employees at Forst BW are now equipped with iPad Pro tablets, where LogStackLIDAR is installed. The technology replaces traditional stadia rods and measuring tapes, allowing for the measurement of raw timber stacks with great speed and accuracy.

Forst BW chose LogStackLIDAR because the system is easy to transport and can measure and process data on the same tablet, which is also used for the business's other processes.

With LogStackLIDAR, Forst BW can now measure the state's large timber production efficiently and accurately.

We are happy with our collaboration with Forst BW and look forward to supporting them in their forest management work in Baden-Württemberg.

Hedeselskabet – partnering with nature

Dalgas is part of Hedeselskabet – founded in 1866 and still growing. Hedeselskabet is an association of people working for a sustainable future. And who have the necessary knowledge and experience to lead the way.
