Forest certification

Get your forest management certified according to the internationally recognised standards PEFC (PEFC/09-22-005) and FSC® (FSC-C103859). Certification is documentation that your forest is managed sustainably and responsibly. We have developed simple tools for daily operations, ensuring you have an overview and quality while freeing up time to enjoy your forest.

We document compliance and traceability of the wood

Through Dalgas, you can be included in the two most recognised forest certification schemes and be group certified within both standards. We have designed our systems and operational procedures to document compliance and traceability of the wood.

As a group certificate holder, we are committed to ensuring that the forest management of our group members complies with PEFC’s and FSC®'s principles and criteria for forest management, as described in the standards of the two schemes.

Contact your local forester today to learn more about which certification suits you and your forest management.

Your benefits of forest certification

If you have a fixed cooperation agreement with Dalgas, it is easy to get certified, and as a forest owner, you hardly need to do anything yourself.

Forest management often does not need to be practiced significantly differently, and all necessary documentation is available to you and your partners on the Forest Portal – our online portal for forest owners.

Certification of your forest ensures you a number of benefits

  • Certification is your documentation that the forest is managed sustainably and responsibly.
  • Certification tells the world that you care for nature and promote biodiversity.
  • Certification can strengthen your brand and reputation, especially if you run other relevant businesses alongside forest management.
  • Certification makes you a preferred wood supplier and can provide price premiums for your wood.

Experiences from previous investor field trips to the Baltics

Dalgas has been managing forests in the Baltics since 1998. For a quarter of a century, the company has managed forests for several Danish and international investors from three offices in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

The investment adviser has invested in forest

For the past 30 years, Gustav D. Lassen has advised both private individuals and financial institutions on investing in stocks. In his own portfolio, in addition to stocks, other asset classes are included, with Baltic forest being an important element.

HessenForst has streamlined and certified its round timber measuring using LogStackPro

A potential wait of several days has been reduced to a few seconds' efficient computer calculations at HessenForst, the forestry department in the German federal republic of Hessen.

PEFC Certification

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is the world’s leading forest certification system and is based on international principles.

The PEFC forest standard promotes sustainable development and management of forests with a focus on economy, ecology, and social aspects.

The criteria for certification are set by a working group with representatives from the forest and wood industry, employee and outdoor organisations, and green organisations.

Dalgas and our Chain of Custody certification

We are forest owners and therefore naturally PEFC forest certified. An integral part of the certification is the so-called Chain of Custody certification (CoC), which allows us to purchase and resell forest-certified raw wood.

We do not buy raw wood from controversial sources. This includes:

  • Illegal logging
  • Violation of human rights
  • High conservation value forests threatened by forest management
  • Conversion of natural forest to plantation or other use
  • Use of genetically modified trees

FSC® Certification

FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) is a global non-profit certification and labelling scheme. Products with the FSC label are made with consideration for the environment and ensure the protection of wildlife and people. It is the consumer’s assurance that wood and paper come from responsible sources. In an FSC forest, no more wood is felled than the forest can reproduce.

The forest standard is set by a working group and is based on FSC® International’s 10 core principles, which include compliance with legislation, workers’ rights, community relations, environmental values, etc.

FSC® Ecosystem Services

FSC® certification of ecosystem services is an extension of FSC, recognising that the forest also produces other goods besides wood and timber. The purpose of the scheme is to provide the forest owner with a tool to document and possibly get paid for other efforts and services within:

  • Biodiversity
  • CO2 uptake and carbon storage
  • Groundwater protection
  • Outdoor recreation

Certification ensures goal setting, measurability, documentation, and control by an independent partner. At Dalgas, certification is issued by Soil Association Certification in collaboration with the consulting engineering company WSP.
