Hedeselskabet – partnering with nature
In 1866, Enrico Dalgas helped establish the association Hedeselskabet, and together with a group of enterprising men, he assisted heath farmers in transforming the harsh heathland into fertile agricultural land.
Since then, we have fostered green innovation and left positive marks on the landscape. Today, Hedeselskabet develops and delivers solutions and services centered around nature that contribute to combating and mitigating climate change for the benefit of both biodiversity and society.
Identity, purpose, and history
With the founding of The Danish Hedeselskab on 28 March, 1866, the foundation was laid for an organisation that from the very beginning made a significant effort to cultivate the Danish heaths, which is the background for the company’s name: The Danish Hedeselskab.
Organisation
The organisation of Hedeselskabet encompasses a wide range of different activities centered around nature.
Our organisation consists of management, leadership, a representative assembly, a board of directors, and member committees
Biodiversity Park
In Hedeselskabet’s biodiversity park, we support nature and create favorable conditions for the naturally occurring insects, animals, and plants. Through data, observations, and monitoring, we can learn more about nature and use the park as a living laboratory.
Hedeselskabet’s Forests
It is crucial for the future to plant more forest than we cut down. We know this today. The forest is one of nature’s essential tools for absorbing and storing CO2 from the atmosphere. Therefore, we are working to establish even more new forest, and Hedeselskabet currently owns over 5,250 hectares in Denmark. Our ambitions are also a completely natural part of the green tripartite agreement from 2024
Green innovation with Hedeselskabet
Hedeselskabet has no shareholders or owners who receive dividends. Instead, parts of our profits are used to develop the business and the association—supporting innovation projects and providing funding for both nationwide and local initiatives.
We invest in companies and organisations that can contribute to earnings, development, and knowledge sharing. We continuously focus on both opportunities and risks, initiating projects with purposes beyond short-term returns. These projects have the time and resources to evolve.
